Hi, I’m Dennis Cook, Creative Director and Senior Graphic Designer at DC Design Works.
I’m also a few other things too: photographer, animator, singer / songwriter… in fact, like most people, I’m many things.
But if I had to focus on one it’d be that I’m a graphic designer Exeter businesses (and brands from across the UK) can turn to for support with visual identity and communications.
I love what I do, and I’m proud to have a client base that stretches from the south west to Sefton, and from small start ups to 5,000 strong local authorities.
Fresh from Oxford Brookes University I got my start in a small marketing agency. They promised a junior copywriter role and shoved me into accounts management.
I hated the job. But it was a great hands-on introduction to the world of marketing strategy, campaign planning, relationship management, as well as a chance work closely with a creative team of graphic designers and understand of the process of: brief goes in, creative work comes out.
Anyway, the HMRC turned up to investigate the holding company of this little agency, it got shut down, and we were cut free.
By this time I had realised my marketing knowledge was useful, but I wanted to be a graphic designer. I spent the next 15 years developing my skills in a hands on way for clients like Warwickshire County Council and Oxfordshire County Council.
After almost 12 years in the midlands I relocated to Exeter in 2023.
If I had to pick one thing that has kept me afloat – no, kept me in motion – it’s curiosity. It drives an unending exploration of design, art, production, music, fiction, film, food, history, creativity and so much more.
And this exploration feeds back into my creative work.
So if you’re looking for a graphic designer in Exeter (or beyond) drop me a line.
