Making graphic design real with some south west merch design.
A personal project inspired by the work of Aaron Draplin (Draplin Design Company). The goal was to develop a number of merch designs that celebrate things I love, and feature great graphic design.
The first product was an embroidered trucker cap that combines comfort with chunky, simple design.
Embroidery can get fiddly so the design needed to account for its limitations, and particular attention to detail was needed when it came to production.
After the cap I developed the basic pasty shape into enamel badges for a compact merch option.
Small yet impactful, they attach easily to bags, jackets, and hats. The finishing touch was the addition of “Bude” into the core part of the design – a nod to my hometown.
Next the pasty was adapted into a mascot for mugs and shirts with the headline: “Crimpin’ ain’t easy”.
Each item reflects the care and creativity of my graphic design process. The geometric pasty design unites these products, making them distinctive, but with a common thread.
